Justin Verlander named Astros' Opening Day starter
Houston Astros pitcher Justin Verlander has been named the team's starter for Opening Day.
Verlander opens the season ahead of left-handed ace Dallas Keuchel in the Astros' pitching rotation. The 35-year-old dealt three shutout frames in a Spring Training start on Saturday.
While Verlander posted a strong 3.36 ERA to go with a 25.8% strikeout rate in 2017, his 1.17 WHIP was his highest since the 2014 season, as was his 4.05 SIERA.
