Mariners' Felix Hernandez avoids structural damage in forearm

Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Felix Hernandez's X-rays on his right forearm came back negative.

What It Means:

Hernandez was struck by a line drive on Monday against the Chicago Cubs and immediately hit the ground in pain, but it sounds like he managed to avoid a significant injury. Consider him day-to-day for the time being.

Through 16 games (86 2/3 innings) in 2017, Hernandez struggled to the tune of a 4.36 ERA and a 4.19 SIERA. His 21.2% strikeout rate was a step up from what he posted in 2016, but still sat below his 21.2% career-average. His 1.77 home runs per nine innings were also the most of his career and his 1.29 WHIP sat well above his career-average.
