Mariners' Felix Hernandez makes an early exit after being hit in the arm
Seattle Mariners pitcher Felix Hernandez made an early exit from Monday's Spring Training start when he was hit in the right arm by a line drive.
Hernandez looked to be in a lot of pain as he left the field, but there's no word yet on the severity of the injury. The 31-year-old has been plagued by injury in recent years, and even before this latest issue, the Mariners have said they plan on managing his workload more strictly this season.
Through 16 games (86 2/3 innings) in 2017, Hernandez struggled to the tune of a 4.36 ERA and a 4.19 SIERA. His 21.2% strikeout rate was a step up from what he posted in 2016, but still sat below his 21.2% career-average. His 1.77 home runs per nine innings were also the most of his career and his 1.29 WHIP sat well above his career-average.
