Adrian Beltre forced out of Rangers' lineup with back injury
Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre is not in the lineup for Game 2 of the American League Division Series after sustaining a back injury in Game 1.
Beltre was having back spasms, but after an MRI, he is listed as day to day. Hanser Alberto will bat ninth and fill the hole at third base.
Even though he's clearly not his former self, Beltre is still a valuable bat that the team will miss. He finished the season with a .287/.334/.453 slash and 18 home runs in 619 plate appearances. The drop off to Alberto is significant. Over 104 plate appearances in the majors, Alberto had a .222/.238/.263 slash, following the .310/.331/.435 slash he posted in Triple-A. The team will have to hope to get Beltre back as soon as possible.
