Padres acquire Chase Headley and Bryan Mitchell in trade with Yankees
The San Diego Padres have acquired third baseman Chase Headley and pitcher Bryan Mitchell from the New York Yankees in exchange for outfielder Jabari Blash.
The trade will be seen as a salary dump for the Yankees, who will be off the hook for the $13 million they owed Headley, who spent the first seven-plus years of his career with San Diego, for 2018. Mitchell figures to be a fit for the Padres' rotation, which needed a significant upgrade if they intended on improving in 2018.
Headley posted a .758 OPS in 147 games with the Bombers in 2017.
