John Jaso not in Rays' lineup Tuesday
Tampa Bay Rays designated hitter John Jaso is not in the team's lineup Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox.
The Rays are facing Boston lefty Henry Owens, meaning this is likely just a platoon day for Jaso. Richie Shaffer is acting as the designated hitter and batting eighth.
The Rays have been superbly conscious of the platoon this year, holding Jaso to only 18 plate appearances against left-handed batters. The team as a whole has only had 259 plate appearances as a left-handed batter against a left-handed pitcher, the sixth lowest total in the league. Of those, 135 have gone to Kevin Kiermaier, who is largely utilized for his defense. This is likely a big part of the reason the Rays have managed to post the seventh best wOBA in the league against left-handed pitchers.
