Cardinals' Adam Wainwright has surgery on right elbow
St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Adam Wainwright had arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow Tuesday.
Wainwright said on Twitter that the surgery went great, so hopefully this will help solve some of the velocity issues he was having this past season with his cutter and fastball. Wainwright will be ready to go by Spring Training, but at age 36, he is a risky investment in fantasy next year.
Wainwright had a career-worst year in 2017, posting a 5.11 ERA and 4.29 FIP over 123 1/3 innings pitched. His strikeout rate of 17.6 was well below his career average of 20.3.
