Royals move Danny Duffy to bullpen and Jeremy Guthrie back into rotation

The Kansas City Royals have decided to move pitcher Danny Duffy into the bullpen while Jeremy Guthrie shifts back into the starting rotation.

What It Means:

Duffy started Wednesday, lasting only 2 1/3 innings while allowing 4 runs on 6 hits. Guthrie hasn't started since August 19th, making five appearances out of the bullpen since. He most recently relieved Duffy Wednesday, allowing 1 run on 2 hits over 4 2/3 innings.

Neither pitcher is truly a great option to have as a starter during a postseason run. Duffy's xFIP is at 4.81 while Guthrie's is 5.16. The Royals' rotation sits 28th in the league in xFIP, though the team's defense has helped keep the ERA rank 22nd. After Johnny Cueto and Yordano Ventura, the team will have serious questions at starting pitcher once the postseason begins.
