Greg Bird knocks in two of Yankees' three runs

New York Yankees first baseman Greg Bird went 2-for-3 with a walk, RBI double and solo home run as the Yankees topped the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday.

What It Means:

Bird, a 22-year-old, put the Yankees up 1-0 in the second inning with an RBI double, then added insurance in the ninth inning with a solo home run to right field off of Andrew Bellatti. The rookie has homers in back-to-back games for the second time this month.

Overall, Bird has seven homers, 21 RBI and a .248/.330/.505 triple-slash line in his first 116 big league plate appearances. He's done a superb job filling in for the injured Mark Teixeira.
