Alex Cobb expected to have final start skipped in Rays' rotation

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Alex Cobb will likely skip his final scheduled start on Thursday, and an official announcement could come as soon as Tuesday.

What It Means:

In his first full season since Tommy John surgery, Cobb has thrown a demanding 179 1/3 innings in 2017, and with the Rays out of contention, they don't want to push the right-hander any further. Fellow righty Jake Faria is expected to take his place in Thursday's series finale against the New York Yankees.

Cobb posted a 3.63 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 17.3 strikeout percentage while going 12-10 in 29 starts this season.
