Pirates' Francisco Cervelli (quad) is out for season

The Pittsburgh Pirates have shut down catcher Francisco Cervelli (quad) for the remainder of the regular season.

What It Means:

With only 12 games left in the season, the Pirates have chosen to shut down their catcher for the remaining 12 games. Cervelli hurt his quad in late August, but without him over the stretch, Elias Diaz and Chris Stewart will handle backstop duties.

Cervelli will finish the year with a .249/.342/.370 slash line, 5 home runs, 31 RBI, and 31 runs scored over 304 plate appearances this season.
