Astros' Mike Fiers suspended five games by MLB
Houston Astros pitcher Mike Fiers has been suspended by MLB for five games for throwing over the head of Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Valbuena in Wednesday's game.
Fiers won't appeal the ruling. The throw was in retaliation for Valbuena flipping his bat over a home run earlier in the contest. The umpiring crew didn't eject the right-hander from the game, but the higher-ups decided it was blatant enough to warrant a suspension.
Fiers owns a 5.22 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, and 21.9 strikeout percentage across 153.1 innings this season while going 8-10 in 28 starts (29 games). numberFire's models project him to twirl a 4.62 ERA and 1.33 WHIP with 15 strikeouts over the remainder of the year.
