Danny Duffy (elbow) on track to return to Royals' rotation this weekend

Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Danny Duffy (elbow) threw a three-inning simulated game Monday.

What It Means:

Duffy, who hasn't pitched for the Royals since August 22 due to left elbow impingement, is scheduled to rejoin the big league rotation this upcoming weekend against the Cleveland Indians after he threw all of his pitches in Monday's simulated outing. The 28-year-old left-hander has conceded that he'll likely be dealing with some discomfort over the final weeks of the season.

Prior to injury, Duffy posted a 3.78 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, and 21.4 strikeout percentage across 131 innings this season while going 8-8 (21 starts). numberFire's models project him to record a 4.34 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and 14 strikeouts over the remainder of the year.
