Cubs' Willson Contreras (hamstring) begins rehab stint

Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras (hamstring) finished 0-for-2 with a hit-by-pitch and a strikeout Thursday in his first minor league rehab game with High-A Myrtle Beach.

What It Means:

Contreras caught four innings before exiting, and he's scheduled for another rehab outing on Friday before joining the big league roster. He's been sidelined since August 10 with a right hamstring strain. Rene Rivera has been seeing the majority of starts behind the plate for the Cubs.

Over 102 games this season, Contreras is slashing .274/.342/.519 with a .861 OPS while turning in 21 home runs and 70 RBI across 378 plate appearances (PA). numberFire's models currently expect him to record a .275 batting average with 2 homers, 6 runs scored, and 6 RBI in 45 PA over the remainder of the year.
