Giants' Buster Posey diagnosed with contusion on ring finger

San Francisco Giants catcher/first baseman Buster Posey has been diagnosed with a contusion on the fourth finger of his right hand.

What It Means:

Posey took a foul tip off his ring finger on Tuesday night against the Colorado Rockies, but he can be considered day-to-day after X-rays came back negative. Tim Federowicz will likely draw the start behind the plate on Wednesday after replacing Posey on Tuesday. Nick Hundley is also an option.

Through 122 games this season, Posey is slashing .318/.404/.466 with a .870 OPS while recording 12 home runs, 59 RBI, and 55 runs scored across 500 plate appearances (PA). Without accounting for any potential missed time, numberFire's models project him to turn in a .295 batting average with 2 home runs, 10 RBI, and 11 runs scored in 88 PA over the remainder of the year.
