The Chicago White Sox have placed starting pitcher Derek Holland on release waivers.
Holland will almost certainly pass through waivers and become a free agent. He has been one of the worst pitchers in the majors this year with a 6.16 ERA over 26 starts and three relief appearances.
Along with his bulky ERA, Holland owns a career-worst 5.78 xFIP in 2017, while his strikeout rate of 16.6 is well below his career average of 18.6.
