Mariners' Vidal Nuno overpowers Rangers, strikes out 10
Seattle Mariners pitcher Vidal Nuno dominated the Texas Rangers in a 6-0 win on Wednesday night.
Nuno -- who has been utilized as both a starter and reliever this season -- struck out 10 while allowing one hit and no runs over seven innings. It's the deepest he's worked into a game this year.
In his first season in Seattle, Nuno owns a shiny 2.97 ERA, but his peripherals and 4.42 FIP don't agree with his low ERA. While he's fanning a solid 8.4 hitters per nine innings, he's dodging bullets with a 91 percent strand rate, when his career average is 76 percent. We have Nuno posting a 4.25 ERA and 1.23 WHIP for the remainder of the season.
