Jays' Mark Buehrle to receive cortisone shot in shoulder

Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Mark Buehrle has returned to Toronto to undergo a cortisone shot for his left shoulder.

What It Means:

Marcus Stroman is going to be activated off the disabled list to start in his place Saturday in a huge matchup against the Yankees at Yankee Stadium. Blue Jays manager John Gibbons told reporters Tuesday that Buehrle's shoulder issue isn't too serious, but it's not clear when the veteran southpaw will make his next start. Tuesday in Atlanta is a possibility.

Buehrle was on pace for his 15th consecutive season of at least 200 innings pitched. He owns a 4.16 FIP, but he's not missing many bats anymore. He's only fanning 4.13 hitters per nine innings, the lowest mark among pitchers with at least 100 innings pitched.
