Detroit Tigers designated hitter Victor Martinez is not starting on Thursday against the New York Yankees.
Martinez is getting the day off, so Miguel Cabrera will start at DH while John Hicks mans first base and James McCann handles things behind the plate for Detroit. Left-hander Jaime Garcia will be on the hill for the Yankees.
Over 105 games this season, Martinez is slashing .253/.322/.372 with 10 home runs and 47 RBI in 426 plate appearances (PA). numberFire's models project him to turn in a .276 batting average with 3 home runs, 14 RBI, and 12 runs scored in 117 plate appearances over the remainder of the year.
