Astros, Tigers still engaged in Justin Verlander discussions
The Houston Astros and Detroit Tigers remain engaged in trade talks revolving around starting pitcher Justin Verlander, per FanRag Sports' Jon Heyman.
An earlier report indicated that the two sides were in touch on the veteran right-hander, so it looks like they're trying to work out a deal. While the Tigers are willing to pay a part of Verlander's remaining salary, the Astros would have to give up some top talent in return. If that wasn't enough of an issue, Verlander must also sign off on the deal as he carries a full no-trade clause in his contract.
Verlander's 2.96 nERD ranks 13th among pitchers and 24th among all players in our database. He would be a big addition for an Astros rotation ranked 8th in MLB in WAR (9.6).
