Cleveland Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis will see a reduced workload moving forward in an effort to manage his health, reports Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com.
"We're going to keep an eye him,'' said manager Terry Francona. "I don't think it makes a sense to play a guy 10 games in a row when he's just come off an injury. I check with him every day." A myriad of injuries have limited Kipnis to 72 games this season, and they also might be able to explain his career-low .225 batting average (BA). He went 1-for-5 with a double on Monday in his return to the starting lineup after being held out of the previous three.
In 72 games this season, Kipnis is slashing .225/.283/.388 with a .671 OPS across 306 plate appearances (PA). He has 8 home runs, 26 RBI, 32 runs scored, and 5 stolen bases. numberFire's models project him to record a .260 BA with 3 home runs, 13 RBI, 14 runs scored, and 2 steals in 115 PA over the remainder of the year.
