Nolan Arenado suffers hand contusion, expected to avoid Rockies' DL
Colorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado has been diagnosed with a left hand contusion after X-rays came back negative on Sunday.
Arenado was plunked by a fastball in the top of the fifth inning during Sunday's contests against the Miami Marlins. He managed to avoid significant injury and should be back in the Rockies' starting lineup after a day or two. Pat Valaika figures to start at shortstop in the meantime.
Over 115 games this season, Arenado owns a .311/.361/.585 slash with 26 home runs, 100 RBI, and 74 runs scored in 379 plate appearances (PA). Without yet accounting for the injury, numberFire's models project him to record a .246 batting average with 6 home runs, 19 RBI, and 19 runs scored in 144 PA over the remainder of the year.
