Jason Kipnis (hip) absent from Cleveland's lineup on Friday night
Cleveland Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis (hip) is not starting on Friday versus the Tampa Bay Rays.
Kipnis, who just returned from a month-long stint on the disabled list for a hamstring issue, left Thursday's contest with tightness in his hammy. He's day-to-day. Jose Ramirez will start at second base on Friday while Giovanny Urshela mans the hot corner for Cleveland.
Kipnis has only managed a .290 wOBA and .227/.286/.390 slash through 299 plate appearances (70 games) in 2017. Assuming he doesn't require another stint on the DL, numberFire's models project him to bat .275 in 45 plate appearances over the remainder of the season.
