Willson Contreras (hamstring) should return to Cubs this season
Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras should return from his strained right hamstring this season, sources tell CSNChicago's Patrick Mooney.
On Thursday, an MRI revealed that Contreras' injury wasn't as bad as it could've been but could still keep him out of play for an extended period of time. It's still unlikely that he returns before rosters expand for September, so recent addition Alex Avila should get a lot of run behind the plate for the foreseeable future.
While our models project Contreras for 12 hits and 2 dingers in just 50 plate appearances the rest of the way, they expect Avila to produce 5 home runs and 13 RBI of his own over the remainder of the season.
