Indians place Michael Brantley (ankle) on the disabled list

In a reversal from a previous announcement by the Cleveland Indians, outfielder Michael Brantley has been placed on the disabled list with a sprained ankle.

What It Means:

Brantley was removed from the game on Tuesday after hurting the ankle, but initial reports said he would avoid the disabled list. However, that is not the case now, as the Indians have recalled Erik Gonzalez in the corresponding move. The Tribe has been playing good baseball lately and are four games up in the AL Central standings. Hopefully the oft-injured Brantley can come back soon for the stretch run.

Brantley owns a .342 wOBA with 9 home runs, 52 RBI, 47 runs scored, and 11 steals over 372 plate appearances this season.
