Josh Johnson

Padres' Josh Johnson (elbow) set for rehab games Friday and Monday

San Diego Padres starter Josh Johnson (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Lake Elsinore on Friday.

What It Means:

Johnson hasn't pitched in the majors since 2013 due to a wide variety of injuries. He'll be used in the bullpen both Friday and Monday before potentially joining the club next week.

It would be a great story if Johnson could climb his way back following a second Tommy John surgery. In his prime, Johnson was electric, striking out 9.11 batters per nine innings in 2010 with the Miami Marlins on his way to a 3.02 xFIP. In 2013, his ERA was 6.20 with the Toronto Blue Jays, but his xFIP was a respectable 3.58 as he fell victim to an unlucky home run to fly-ball ratio.
