Washington Nationals starting pitcher Gio Gonzalez will be placed on paternity leave this weekend.
Edwin Jackson will pitch on Saturday for the Nationals while Erick Fedde toes the rubber for his second career start in Sunday's series finale with the Chicago Cubs. Gonzalez took a no-hitter into the ninth inning in his last outing.
Gonzalez is 9-5 in 22 starts this season while recording a 2.66 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and 22.8 strikeout percentage (K%) across 142 1/3 innings. numberFire's models project him to turn in a 3.61 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and 19.6 K% in 67 1/3 innings over the remainder of the year.
