Ryder Jones recalled by Giants from Triple-A Sacramento

San Francisco Giants infielder Ryder Jones was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento.

What It Means:

Conor Gillaspie has been designated for assignment and Jae-gyun Hwang was demoted back to the minors, so Jones looks poised to take over as the Giants' everyday third baseman. He struggled at the plate in his first taste of major league action earlier in the year, going just 1-for-21 (.048), but the 23-year-old has shown enough in Triple-A to be worth a look in NL-only formats. If Jones is unable to secure the starting role, Pablo Sandoval will likely factor into the equation for San Francisco on the hot corner.

Over 64 contests for the Sacramento River Cats this season, Jones is slashing .312/.396/.574 with 13 home runs, 44 RBI, 44 runs scored, and 7 stolen bases in 273 plate appearances.
