Rangers recall Nick Martinez to fill rotation spot
The Texas Rangers have recalled pitcher Nick Martinez from Triple-A Round Rock.
Having moved Yu Darvish in a deadline deal Monday afternoon, the Rangers needed a fifth starter to fill out their rotation for the rest of the season. It looks like, at least for now, that spot will go to Martinez, who had made 11 starts with the big league club earlier this season.
In his 14 total appearances with Texas, Martinez posted a 3-3 record with a 5.85 FIP and .262 average against. Since his demotion, he's gone 2-0 with a 5.38 FIP in 4 starts and 5 appearances.
