The Chicago Cubs acquired catcher Alex Avila from the Detroit Tigers in a deal that also yielded reliever Justin Wilson, in exchange for infield prospects Jeimer Candelario and Issac Paredes, and a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Avila, 30, will play the backup veteran role to Willson Contreras behind the plate for the defending champs. He's been superb with his bat this season, slashing .274/.394/.475 with 11 home runs and 32 RBI over 264 plate appearances (77 games).
numberFire's models project Avila to record a .238 batting average with 6 home runs and 16 RBI in 150 plate appearances over the remainder of the year.
