The Chicago Cubs acquired reliever Justin Wilson and catcher Alex Avila from the Detroit Tigers for infield prospects Jeimer Candelario and Isaac Paredes, and a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Wilson will move into a set-up role with the Cubs after serving as the Tigers' closer over the past few months, but he could compete for the ninth-inning job in Chicago next season. The 29-year-old southpaw owns a 2.68 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and 35.0 strikeout percentage across 40 1/3 innings (42 games).
numberFire's models project Wilson to twirl a 2.69 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and 28.4 strikeout percentage in 23 1/3 innings over the remainder of the year.
