D-Backs' Robbie Ray leaves after taking liner to head

Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Robbie Ray was forced to leave Friday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals after taking a Luke Voit line drive off of his head.

What It Means:

Ray was hit by the comebacker in the bottom of the second inning. Fortunately, the pitcher was able to stay conscious the whole time before being helped to a cart and driven off the field. Ray is scheduled to undergo further testing with the D-Backs providing an update late in the evening.

Ray owns a 3.90 xFIP and a 30.7% strikeout rate while going 9-5 through 19 starts (117 innings) this season.
