New York Mets catcher Rene Rivera is not starting on Thursday versus the San Diego Padres.
Travis d'Arnaud will catch Mets right-hander Chris Flexen while batting seventh versus Padres righty Luis Perdomo, so Rivera is headed back to the bench after going 0-for-4 with a strikeout on Wednesday.
For the season, Rivera is slashing .238/.284/.384 with 6 home runs and 20 RBI in 162 plate appearances (47 games). numberFire's models project him to record a .230 batting average in 95 remaining plate appearances this year.
