Cardinals' Michael Wacha scratched from his Wednesday start
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Michael Wacha has been scratched from his scheduled start Wednesday night against the Washington Nationals.
Tyler Lyons is going to take the hill instead. No word yet on the reason for bumping Wacha, but it could be similar to the Cardinals' decision to skip Carlos Martinez on Tuesday. That was more of a workload protection thing here in early September, though the Cardinals claimed publicly that Martinez had a sore back.
Wacha owns a 3.26 FIP, which ranks 21st among starting pitchers. We have him pegged for a 3.30 ERA and 1.15 WHIP over the remainder of the season, assuming he's healthy.
