Red Sox place Ben Taylor (oblique) on 10-day DL

The Boston Red Sox have placed reliever Ben Taylor on the 10-day disabled list with a left intercostal strain.

What It Means:

This type of core injury usually requires at lease three to four weeks rest, so the Red Sox could use some help to fill his role in the bullpen. But, for now, the team has activated Blaine Boyer (elbow) from the DL.

The 25-year-old rookie has 1 save, 1 hold and a 4.87 FIP in 17 1/3 innings pitched. Our algorithms project him for a 0-1 record, 9 strikeouts and 7 earned runs in 10-plus innings the rest of the year.
