Red Sox acquire Eduardo Nunez in trade with Giants

The Boston Red Sox acquired third baseman/outfielder Eduardo Nunez from the San Francisco Giants for a pair of right-handed pitchers in Shaun Anderson and Gregory Santos.

What It Means:

Nunez was lifted in the bottom of the fifth inning on Tuesday before word of the trade came out from FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, but he bid farewell to the Giants in style, turning in a double, 2 RBI, and 2 runs scored prior to exiting. Rafael Devers is expected to see the majority of the work at third base for Boston, so Nunez projects to play more of a utility role. He turned 30 last month and will be a free agent this winter.

Nunez is slashing .308/.334/.417 with 4 taters, 31 RBI, 37 runs scored, and 18 steals in 318 plate appearances (76 games) this season. numberFire's models project him for a .291 batting average with 3 homers, 25 RBI, 19 runs scored, and 9 steals in 204 plate appearances for the rest of the year.
