Drew Smyly electric for Rays in seven shutout innings over Orioles
Tampa Bay Rays starter Drew Smyly had his mojo flowing Tuesday night as he struck out 10 Baltimore Orioles batters over seven shutout innings in an 11-2 Rays win.
Smyly only walked one batter and allowed four hits in the outing. Reliever Kirby Yates came on and added four additional strikeouts, giving the Rays' staff 14 for the night.
This was -- by far -- Smyly's best start since coming off of the disabled list. In his first three starts, Smyly had an xFIP of 4.69. Tuesday's effort brings his season-long number down to 3.35 over 37 2/3 innings. Our projections are cautious about him for the rest of the season, slating him for a 4.37 ERA.
