St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Stephen Piscotty's groin injury is lingering longer than initially planned, manager John Mozeliak admitted Sunday.
Piscotty was originally expected to be activated from the 10-day disabled list on Tuesday when he was first eligible, but that no longer appears to be the case. The 26-year-old outfielder will be re-evaluated early in the week. He batted just .171 (6-for-35) with 11 strikeouts in 10 games this month before landing on the DL on July 15, so perhaps those struggles were injury-related.
For the season, Piscotty owns a .236/.348/.371 slash with 6 homers and 31 RBI in 273 plate appearances (69 games). numberFire's models project him to post a .258 average, with 4 home runs and 19 RBI over 183 remaining plate appearances in 2017.
