Felix Hernandez strikes out nine in Mariners' loss

Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Felix Hernandez turned in a seven-inning gem on Thursday, striking out nine while allowing only one run on three hits, but it wasn't enough as Seattle fell 4-1 to the New York Yankees.

What It Means:

A solo homer in the sixth inning from Brett Gardner was the only blemish on an otherwise excellent performance from Hernandez, who now stands at 5-4 (11 starts) on the season with a 3.88 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, and 22.4 strikeout percentage over 62 2/3 innings. After a rough start to the season, the 31-year-old right-hander has allowed a total of just two earned runs over his last three starts.

numberFire's models don't know if Hernandez can keep it up, as we project him to record a 5.12 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and 16.9 strikeout percentage in 61 2/3 innings over the remainder of the year.
