Detroit Tigers catcher Alex Avila is not starting on Tuesday night versus the Kansas City Royals.
This could potentially mean a trade is on the horizon, as MLB Network's Jon Morosi reported earlier that the Chicago Cubs were interested in acquiring Avila as a backup for Willson Contreras. For now, we'll assume it's just a standard day off. James McCann is starting behind the plate for Detroit.
Avila is slashing .292/.420/.518 with 11 home runs and 29 RBI in 238 plate appearances (68 games) this season. numberFire's models project him to record a .245 batting average with 7 more taters and 20 RBI in 180 more plate appearances over the remainder of the year.
