Cardinals' Carlos Martinez (back) scratched from Tuesday start
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Carlos Martinez will not make his scheduled start on Tuesday due to a back injury.
It looks like a move made to give Martinez some rest as much (or more) than it is about a back injury. He's currently on pace to throw 192 2/3 innings, which would eclipse last season's career-high workload by about 80 frames. Martinez will likely be ready to go early next week. Marco Gonzales will start in Martinez's place Tuesday.
Martinez, in his first full season as a starter, owns a shiny 3.30 FIP while striking out 9.08 batters per nine innings. Our projections have Martinez with a 3.73 ERA and 1.32 WHIP the rest of the way.
