Rays' Colby Rasmus (hip) to 'step away' from baseball
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Colby Rasmus (hip) will not return this season, reports Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.
Topkin tweets that Rasmus has decided to "step away" from baseball, adding that the Rays have placed him on the restricted list, making it unlikely the outfielder returns this season. Rasmus, who turns 31 next month, hasn't played since June 18 due to lingering discomfort in his surgically-repaired hip.
Rasmus slashed .281/.318/.579 with a .896 OPS this season while turning in 9 home runs and 23 RBI in 37 games (129 plate appearances).
