Matt Cain will be moved to Giants' bullpen
San Francisco Giants pitcher Matt Cain will work out of the bullpen in a long relief role with starter Madison Bumgarner (shoulder) set to return to the rotation.
Giants manager Bruce Bochy said they considered going to a six-man rotation but ultimately decided against it. Cain is 3-8 in 17 starts this season with a 5.56 ERA, 1.70 WHIP, and 12.8 strikeout percentage over 90 2/3 innings.
Prior to this announcement, numberFire's models projected the 32-year-old right-hander to record a 5.22 ERA, 1.52 WHIP, and 14.1 strikeout percentage across 69 innings over the remainder of the season.
