St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Jose Martinez was optioned to Triple-A Memphis.
Martinez has been squeezed out of the roster upon the return of Dexter Fowler (heel) from the disabled list. Look for the 28-year-old outfielder to work his way back onto the big league roster after the break. Fowler is starting in center field and batting third on Friday versus right-hander Jacob deGrom and the New York Mets.
In 50 games this season, Martinez is slashing .280/.321/.464 with 5 home runs, 17 RBI, and 22 runs scored in 135 plate appearances.
