Machi earns the save as Red Sox top Mets
Jean Machi earned his third save of the season as the Boston Red Sox beat the New York Mets on Saturday.
Junichi Tazawa got the save opportunity on Friday and blew it in a big way. Machi, on the other hand, threw a clean ninth inning at Citi Field on Saturday.
Machi is apparently the preferred Red Sox stopper right now, with Koji Uehara out for the season, but it's not as if he's been a lights-out option. Since coming over from the Giants, Machi has a 5.91 ERA with just an 8:4 strikeout to walk ratio. He might be a cheap source of saves, but his 1.69 home run percentage indicates he could blow up at any time.
