Rangers acquire Jason Grilli from Blue Jays

The Texas Rangers acquired reliever Jason Grilli and cash considerations from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for outfielder Eduard Pinto.

What It Means:

Grilli was designated for assignment last week, but with the Rangers using a committee approach in the ninth inning, the veteran reliever could actually compete for save chances in Texas. He's struggled to a 6.97 ERA over 20 2/3 innings for the Blue Jays this season while going 1-for-3 on save chances, but that's accompanied by a 24.2 strikeout percentage and 9.5 percent walk rate.

Prior to this deal, numberFire's models projected the 40-year-old Grilli to twirl a 4.50 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and 24.5 strikeout percentage across 22 innings over the remainder of the season.
