Blue Jays sitting Russell Martin in series opener
Toronto Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin is not starting on Friday against the Boston Red Sox.
What It Means:
Martin has started seven straight contests, so the Blue Jays will give him a breather. Luke Maile is starting behind the plate and batting ninth for versus Red Sox right-hander Doug Fister.
The 34-year-old catcher is slashing .219/.371/.379 with 7 home runs and 16 RBI in 210 plate appearances (PA) this season. numberFire's models project Martin to record a .239 batting average with 8 home runs and 28 RBI in 231 PA over the rest of the year.
