Red Sox claim Doug Fister off waivers
Former Los Angeles Angels pitcher Doug Fister was claimed off waivers by the Boston Red Sox on Friday.
On Wednesday, Fister utilized an opt-out clause in his one-year contract with the Angels. He was released and sent to waivers, where, even if claimed, he could reject the claim and become a free agent. But, with an offer to become a member of the Red Sox' 40-man roster, expect Fister to insert himself into the rotation, at least for the time being.
In 3 starts at AAA-Salt Lake, Fister posted a respectable 3.59 FIP in 15 2/3 innings.
