Darnell Sweeney

Darnell Sweeney batting leadoff for Phillies Wednesday

Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Darnell Sweeney will bat leadoff Wednesday as the Phillies face the New York Mets.

What It Means:

This will be Sweeney's second start in the big leagues after he hit in the six hole back on Sunday. With several pinch-hitting opportunities mixed in, Sweeney is 1-for-5 with a home run and three walks. He came to the Phillies in the trade that sent Chase Utley to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Sweeney, a switch hitter, will bat from the left-hand side against Mets' righty Bartolo Colon. In 522 plate appearances while in Triple-A with the Dodgers, Sweeney had a .271/.332/.409 slash with nine home runs and 32 stolen bases. Colon's xFIP rises to 4.31 against left-handed batters this season, so even though Sweeney hit left-handed pitching better in the minors, he could be an intriguing tournament option in daily fantasy Wednesday.
