The Oakland Athletics called up third baseman Matt Chapman and are having him make his MLB debut Thursday versus the New York Yankees.
With the A's season heading nowhere, the team has started the youth movement calling up the 25th overall pick in the 2014 draft. Veteran Trevor Plouffe was designated for assignment in a corresponding move. Ryon Healy will return to DH to make room for Chapman, who is batting seventh.
The A's own the second-lowest implied run total of the day (4.14), making Chapman a risky play in his first big league game.
